Funeral services for Loretta Jean Watson, age 81 of Norfolk, Neb., were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church in Norfolk. The Reverend Dr. James S. Brewer officiated, with burial in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk.

Visitation was held Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home in Norfolk.
Loretta died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Heritage of Bel-Air in Norfolk.
Loretta Jean (Menning) Watson, daughter of Charles Menning and Marie (Plooster) Menning, was born Oct. 5, 1932, at the family home at Harrison, S. D. Loretta attended Orchard High School in Orchard, Neb., graduating with the Class of 1950. On Oct. 7, 1950, she was married to Charles P. Watson. The couple was blessed with five children: Cheri, Mary, Scott, James "J.B.", and Michael Jon.
During her lifetime, Loretta lived various places in the Midwest, including Orchard, Plainview, Wayne, and Norfolk, all in Nebraska, as well as Atlantic. While living in Plainview, Loretta worked for Harold Mauch at Mauch Studios photography, and was an active member of the Order of The Eastern Star. When she moved to Norfolk, Loretta worked with Merle Norman cosmetics until her retirement.
Loretta's strength and will to live were amazing. Her love and generosity towards her family and friends was unending. She will be greatly missed and live on in our hearts forever.
Loretta is survived by her children, Cheri (Todd) McDonald of Norfolk, Neb., Mary Jirkovsky of Omaha, Scott (Sandy) Watson of Norfolk, and J.B. (Kelley) Watson of Pierce, Neb.; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Redella Menning Woelfer of St. Louis, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Menning; mother, Marie Plooster Menning; step-mother, Anna May Carlson Menning; son, Michael Jon; brother, Floyd Menning; and sisters, Fonda Menning Holiday and Irene Menning.
