Jay Robert Weary was born Feb. 24, 1963, in Fremont, Neb., to Jim and Bonnie Weary. The family moved to Atlantic in 1967 where his parents owned and operated Jim's Supermarket on the west end of town.
The Guest Book is expired.
Jay accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the age of 10. He attended school and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1981. Upon graduation he went to school at Evangel College in Springfield, Mo., and later attended Teen Challenge of the Midlands in Colfax, graduating in 1990.
In 1991, Jay moved to Texas, and the warmer weather, working as a financial planner with his brother for several years. Most recently, he served the Killeen, Texas, community with his loving smile and caring attitude as a customer service manager for the Killeen Wal-Mart. Serving others was something Jay was very proud to do.
Jay was a self-motivated, energetic, fun loving man, who had an amazing spirit for life. He looked forward to spending time with his family. He and his two brothers even came up with their own language while growing up. With phone calls yet to this day, other family members could hear them say, "num num…nay may".
Jay was an AVID Nebraska football fan…that being said…GO HUSKERS!
He dearly loved his nephews and nieces and was truly proud of each one of them and their accomplishments. But his greatest treasure here on earth has been his son, Michael Jay Weary. The past five plus years every phone call to his family always caught them up with Michael's newest accomplishments. Michael is smart, talented, athletic and so loving…a lot like his Dad.
Jay passed away quickly from his earthly life to his heavenly home on Nov. 3, 2013, at the age of 50 years, 8 months and 6 days.
Surviving Jay are his son, Michael; his parents, Jim and Bonnie Weary; his friend, Grace Ruiz and three special boys, David, Isaac and Josh Ruiz all of Killeen, Texas; two brothers, Ernie (LeAnn) Hawthorne of Atlantic, and Paul (Terrie Meredith) Hawthorne of Cove, Ore.; nephews, Christopher Hawthorne of Hobbs, N.M. and Charlie Crump of Cove, Ore.; nieces, Christa (Lloyd) Osborn of Rowlett, TX, Bethany (Paul) Borjas of LaVon, TX, Jenna Hawthorne of Bozeman, Mont., and Catherine Hawthorne (fiancé, Joel White) of Atlantic; great-niece and nephews, Maya Borjas, Elijah Borjas and Jesse Osborn; and other uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Preceding Jay in death were his paternal and maternal grandparents, Robert and Mildred Weary and Anton and Francis Zalud.
A memorial service was held in Killeen, Texas, Nov. 8, 2013.
