Richard "Dick" J. Hansen, 74, a resident of Atlantic, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014, at his home.
The son of Oscar Frederick and Versa Mae Eagan Hansen, he was born Dec. 31, 1939, in Hamlin. He was united in marriage to Martha Ann Rogers, June 24, 1962, in Atlantic. Richard was a retired First Sergeant in the US Army and served during both Vietnam and Korea. He received two Purple Heart medals, the Air Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and the Bronze Star (first oak leaf cluster), for his service. Richard enjoyed fishing, gardening, wood work and Western novels. He is fondly remembered by his family for his jovial nature and teasing everyone-all the time! They recall his big, beautiful blue eyes and his tender heart that loved little children.
He is survived by his wife, Martha of Atlantic; two daughters, Renee (Dwight) Hansen and Miranda "Randie" (Keith) Shultz; one son, Richard, Jr. "Rik" Hansen; granddaughter, Briana (Nick) Pledge; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Rogan Pledge; his brothers, Wilbur (Sharon) Hansen and Frank (Carolyn) Hansen; his sister, Mary (Terrell) Perkins; a brother, Daryl (Neva) Hansen; sister, Donna (Jim) McCabe; and brother, Jerry (Kandy) Hansen; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arthur and Virgil Hansen and three nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 24, 11 o'clock a.m., at the Roland Funeral Home with Mike Eells of the Atlantic Gospel Chapel, officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery, with Military Rites being presented by the Atlantic Color Guard.
Family will plan to meet friends and relatives, Thursday morning, April 23, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the Roland Funeral Home, with Masonic Services being held at 10 a.m. Open visitation will be available Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Thursday morning, prior to service time.
