Kathleen Rose
Higgins
10/28/52 - 03/05/13
Kathleen Rose Higgins, of Newcastle, California, passed away on March 5, 2013 after a brave struggle with cancer.
Kathleen, known as Kathie to her friends and family, was born to the late Rose and James Vincent Pinnetti in Brockton, Massachusetts in 1952. She graduated from Brockton High School and received her degree from the School of Fashion Design in Boston. She taught dance at the Shirley Matta and Paula Coffee dance schools in the Brockton area and married Charles "Kenny" Higgins on July 24, 1976. They started their family in West Bridgewater, Mass., before relocating to Madison, N.H. to raise their children.
A dancer since she was a child, Kathie combined her passions for dancing, teaching, and fashion design by opening her own dance studio in Madison. She made a difference in many children's lives by passing on her knowledge of dance and encouraging them to shine at yearly recitals. Kathie also worked as a substitute teacher at Madison Elementary school. She loved to travel and went on annual family trips with her husband and children.
Later, Kathie and her husband relocated to California, where she taught dance at the Green Tree Studio in Loomis and continued with her fashion design work.
Kathie was also an avid gardener, writer, and all-around artist.
Kathie is survived by her two children, Krystal and Kyle; her sister, Linda Uhlman and family; her sister-in-law, Wendy and family; brother-in-law, Jeff; plus many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will have a small ceremony for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent in her name to Stand up to Cancer (www.standup2cancer.org).

Kathie was such an inspiration to me. Her kind heart, her indomitable spirit and her passionate joy in life were only a few of the things that made her such a special person. I'm so sorry for her loss, but I know that inspiration will live on in all of the hearts she touched.

I am so grateful to have known Kathleen through her words. She had sent me this message: "Such inspiring people I am meeting through this journey of mine." Her indomitable spirit carried her through this journey, and she was an inspiration to so many. May you find comfort in the legacy she has left——her smile, her love, her spirit.

I have mourned the (impending) loss of a beautiful friend at various stages through the last months, but now... whenever I think of Kathleen, it makes me smile instead of sad. Just like she always asked me to.
Oh, all the little gems she dropped for her friends left and right of the trail, even on her final journey. She was such a giver...
Knowing her has been such a privilege, that I can whole-heartedly go with one of my fave quotes:
"Don't be sad that it's over; be happy that it happened." (Dr. Seuss)
I really AM happy. Thinking of her fills me with joy. And I wish for everyone who loved and cared for her to get to that point when it comes to remembering her. She would have liked it.
