Mergen, Paul M.
Paul M. Mergen 2014 Paul Michael Mergen, 90, passed away in Phoenix, Ariz., on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 after a brave and hard-fought battle with cancer. Born in Whittemore, Iowa, he moved to Roseville, Calif., at age two with his parents and spent 79 years there. He served in World War II with the Army Air Corp on the Pacific Island of Palau and was in Japan when the instrument of surrender was signed on the USS Missouri. After his service to our country, he received his Public Accounting license with the help of the GI Bill. He worked at the Placer County Assessor’s Office for 30 years and was the Assistant Assessor. He loved John Wayne and his family called him “Duke”, some family members referred to him as “Jaws” cause he loved to talk and tell stories. The fishing trips to Alaska were the most memorable, especially the float plane trips into lakes or on the salt water for salmon or halibut. Paul is survived by his daughter Joy Mergen, granddaughter Robin Morrison Londt, son-in-law Eddie Londt, great grandkids Austin and Kassi Talerico. He was preceded by his loving wife Rose Mergen and his granddaughter Wendy Morrison. We would laugh and joke about meeting St. Peter at the gates of heaven and that you needed to lead a good life on earth in order to enter heaven. He exceeded that goal and is with his loved ones watching over us right now.
