Michaelis, Marian Maspero - Auburn  
Marian Maspero Michaelis 9/4/1925-3/16/2016 Marian Maspero Michaelis, 90, passed away on March 16, 2016 at home in Auburn, Calif., surrounded by family. Marian was preceded in death by Charles, her loving husband of 64 years and by her sister, Betty Rubardt. Marian was born on September 4, 1925 in Long Beach, Calif., the first daughter of Laurene and Arthur Maspero. She grew up in Long Beach where she attended Polytechnic High School. She attended University of California, Berkeley completing her Bachelor Degree in Music and Minor in English. She met the love of her life, Charles Michaelis, while working on her general teaching credential at Cal. Berkeley. She taught school music for two years before marrying Charles in 1950. Marian and Charles raised five children together. They lived in Woodland, Vallejo, Oakland, Fair Oaks, and Auburn. Marian was an active and faithful PEO sister for 69 years. While in Fair Oaks, Marian was a leader for Girls Scouts, 4-H, and youth choirs. She was very involved in the Fair Oaks Methodist Women's Ministry and led a Bible Study for over 35 years. Marian loved music! She played the piano, violin and viola. She performed with the viola in several community orchestras. She volunteered as the choir director at the elementary school in Fair Oaks when music was being cut out of schools. She directed both children and adult choirs in churches wherever she lived. After Charles retired, they moved to Auburn to get out of the Valley fog. She continued to be involved in Women's Ministry and choir at Auburn Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed reading about financial news and doing crossword puzzles. Marian and Charles traveled in the US and abroad where they researched their genealogy. They enjoyed several Elderhostel tours in the Western States. She is survived by her children, Fred (Suzanne) Michaelis, Joy (Dave) Jackson, Carol Michaelis, David (Janine) Michaelis, and Jim (Heidi) Michaelis; 13 grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews. She was a loving mother, wonderful homemaker, and dedicated friend. Her generosity and kind heart will be dearly missed by family and friends. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Auburn Presbyterian Church, 13025 Bel Air Drive (corner of Bell and New Airport Rds.) in Auburn, CA 95603.
