Elva Raynsford Azzara

We celebrate the life of our wonderful auntie, Elva Azzara, who reached the amazing age of 102 1/2. She was born in Sacramento and attended local schools, including Sacramento High School. Elva graduated from the College of the Pacific (UOP) in Stockton. She was the daughter of Mark H. Raynsford and Arabella C. (Daly) Raynsford. She taught music and English for 30 years at C.K McClatchy High School in Sacramento. She was married in 1943, to Russell C. Azzara. They came back to Sacramento to live and teach. They attended All Saints Episcopal Church, in Sacramento.
Elva was proceeded in death by her husband, Russell Azzara; her sister, Vesta Chastain (Raynsford); and brother-in-law, Harold E. Chastain, both of Auburn, Calif. Elva's surviviing relatives are nephew, Mark Chastain and wife Susan, Celia Chastain Olshefski and husband Pat, all from Auburn; great-nieces and newphews, Linda Raynsford (Billing), of San Francisco, Peter Billing and Jennifer Jhonson (Billing), both from Auburn; Jason Chastain from Chesterfield, Va., Michelle Tate (Chastain) and Harold Chastain both from Loomis; and seven great-great-nieces and nephews.
Elva was cared for in Auburn by, Home Instead, and Hospice of the Foothills. There will be a viewing at Harry Nauman and Son, 4041 Freeport Blvd., Sacramento, on December 30, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A private famiy service at East Lawn Cemetery at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Hospice of the Foothills, 11270 Rough and Ready Hwy.
