John S. Avila

John Avila left to be with our heavenly Father on August 2, 2013 at his home in Antelope after a lengthy illness.
John was born on July 1, 1929 in La Cebollita N. Mex. He was preceded in death by his parents Juan and Fransisquita, and brother Manuel.
He moved to California as a teenager with his family. After high school he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Alaska. When he was discharged he returned to California and attended San Francisco State University where earned a business degree. He worked in the insurance industry for over 30 years. John moved to Auburn in 1969 and lived in Auburn until 2007. John loved fishing, camping, the great outdoors and collecting antiques. He was a history and old movie buff, an avid reader and loved to cook. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his daughters and granddaughters.
John is survived by his daughters Liz Briggs and Judy McKee (Kevin), 2 granddaughters Megan and Melina McKee, sister Mary Garbo, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, October 13 at 1 p.m. at Judy's home in Roseville.
