Lloyd Metry Kelly

Lloyd Metry Kelly passed away peacefully on December 23, 2013, in Auburn Calif. He had been a resident of Newcastle, Calif., for 40 years. Lloyd was born December 24, 1915, in Winnipeg/Manitoba to Metry Albert Sr. and Geraldine Nuttall. He was educated in Canada and emigrated to the US in 1936. He joined his father and two brothers, Gerald and Dick, in the family business, Day and Nite Garage, in Portland, Maine.
Lloyd married his beloved Bernadette "Bunny" Lavigne in 1939. They were married for 54 years until her death in 1993. They had one son, Robert "Bob". Lloyd joined the US Navy
in 1945. After his discharge, he opened his own service station. The family moved from Maine to Redondo Beach, Calif., in 1953. Lloyd worked as a tool and die maker on the Apollo Space Project. Retiring in 1974, Lloyd and Bunny moved to Newcastle to be closer to their two grandchildren, Ginger and Robert. For years, they traveled with their RV, and explored Calif., deserts and the West Coast extensively.
Lloyd was an intelligent, inquisitive man, and kept up with the news. He enjoyed family, his dog, outings with his friend, Barbara, music, books, card games, and wood-crafting; often donating his wares.
"Pop" will be forever missed by his son, Bob (Maggie) Kelly. Grandchildren Ginger (Renz) Hoppe, and Robert (Sue) Kelly; four great-grandchildren: Max and Samantha Hoppe; Jennifer and Grace Kelly. He is survived by his sister, Vera Wilson (Jim); brother, Victor Kelly, and many nieces and nephews. Lloyd was preceded in death by his three brothers: Gerald, Dick, and Metry Kelly Jr.
Funeral service was at Chapel of the Hills in Auburn, Calif., on December 28, 2013, officiated by Hospice Chaplin, Doni Kay. Private burial was at Newcastle Cemetery.
