Martha M. Blissitt-Ayres

Martha M. Blissitt-Ayres passed away December 9, 2012, in Auburn, Calif. She was 87 years old.
Martha was born in Martin Township, Pope County, Arkansas, on March 1, 1925 to Edward and Salema Trantham. She was one of nine children that worked on the family farm while growing up in Arkansas. After graduating from high school, Martha married the love of her life, Bob Blissitt, and began their family. Following Bob's active military service during World War II, the family moved to California, settling in Sonora. In 1955, they moved to Sacramento until they retired in 1985, eventually settling in Auburn.
Martha retired from the Pacific Bell Telephone Company as a manager after 26 years of dedicated service, was a Past President of the Auburn Garden Club, a member of Eastern Star, Elks Lodge
, Telephone Pioneers, Square & Compass, Sewers & Rippers, Quilt & Stitch and numerous other local organizations. She enjoyed her flower, vegetable and fruit gardens, playing cards, doing crafts, entertaining, and being with family.
She is survived by her husband of five years, Norman R. Ayres; daughters; Sharon and son-in-law, Robert Gibson of San Antonio, Nancy and son-in-law, Mark Machado of Penn Valley; four grandsons: Brian and Brad Gibson of Texas, Philip and Timothy Martin of Sacramento; along with seven great-grandchildren; and four of her original eight brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert R. Blissitt.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 2 p.m. in the Auburn Grace Community Church, 3126 Olympic Way, Auburn, Calif.
