Zeta J. Bonnifield

Zeta Johanna Bonnifield passed away peacefully in Sacramento, Calif., on May 20, 2014 at 96 years of age. She was born in a ranch house, south of Dagmar in Northeastern Montana, on May 7, 1918, the third child of Bruce and Johanna Smith. She was raised in the Volmer community and after marrying Floyd Bonnifield, she moved to California and resided near San Miguel, Calif. She and Floyd eventually purchased land near Lincoln, Calif., and, raised rice, and livestock for many years. Floyd passed away in 1998. Always a country girl at heart. She loved being around livestock especially horses. When she moved to California in the early 1940's, she took her favorite horse, "Baldy" and her pet pig It was quite an adventure to travel fifteen hundred miles with her animals. Zeta enjoyed her flowers and gardening and had a beautiful yard. She loved to entertain family and friends and in 1994 she and her sister Sarah hosted a Smith and Bonnifield family reunion on her farm. She also enjoyed traveling all over the United States and visited Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. She was very close to her brothers and sisters and enjoyed visiting them in Montana or having them stay with her in Lincoln, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Violet and Sarah, and a brother, Art. Zeta is survived by a brother, Ed of Dagmar, Mont. and Alberta of San Miguel, Calif. She is also survived by eight nephews.
Zeta eventually moved to Sacramento Calif., and resided in assisted living facilities. The family would like to thank the staff at Modern Care and Living and The Meadows at Country Place for her excellent care. A special thank you to Mary Jean Mejia, Dr. Jeffery Gerstein, and Rebecca Dean, who cared for Zeta over the years and treated her like family.
The memorial services were held at the Mount Vernon Memorial Park And Mortuary in Fair Oaks Calif., on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 3:00p.m.
