1926-2010
Clarence "Vernon" Baughman, 1926 - 2010, long-time resident of Auburn, California has died at age 83. Mr. Baughman was born in Granite, Oklahoma and served in the military for four years.
His family moved to California in 1945 and Vernon followed shortly after his discharge from the military. Vernon had a great love for music and through that music he met and married the love of his life, Gladys Cole. They had two wonderful sons, Jimmy and Ron Baughman.
Living in the Bay Area Vernon worked for Ford Motor Company. In 1965 Vernon moved his family to Auburn, California where they have resided for the past 45 years. Vernon worked and retired from the City of Auburn where he worked as a mechanic.
Many will remember Vernon for his sweet soul, ready smile and love of music. An exemplary country musician, his guitar playing talent won him numerous awards throughout his years. He was also one of the first members inducted into the Western Swing Hall of Fame. He enjoyed a long musical career and had the honor of playing with many great musicians over the years. Through his music Vernon made many friends and touched many people from all parts of the world.
He is survived by Gladys, his wife of more than 60 years, his two sons Jimmy and Ron and their families, who blessed Vernon's life with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Vernon will be missed by many.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. The Funeral Service is Wednesday, May 26, at 11 a.m. All services will be held at Chapel of the Hills, 1331 Lincoln Way in Auburn.

My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories of Vernon bring you comfort. The 34th Psalm verse 18 gives us this comfort. "The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart: and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit."
With our broken hearts, God is near. This is comforting.

Our Condolences to the family of Vern & Gladys Baughman. I have played a hundred or more jobs with Vern over the years and all of them were GREAT. Vern & I were inducted into the Western Swing Society on the same day. What a tremendous honor. There will never be another one like Vern.
