Art passed away at home on January 6, 2014. He was born in Albany, Calif., to Lloyd and Dorothy Gay. The family moved to Grass Valley and then Berkeley before settling in Ophir in the late 1940's. Art attended Ophir Elementary School, Placer High School, and briefly Sierra College. He enlisted in the Navy where he spent most of his career as a machinist and Chief Petty Officer. Upon retirement he stayed in the San Diego area and finally settled in Ramona, Calif., where he married and had one son, Anthony.
Art was a tinkerer and collector of all things mechanical. But when the family had to evacuate their home for a second time because of wildfires, he lost much of his outdoors "collection." He was a lover of animals and God and was a long-time member of the Calvary Chapel of Ramona. His remarkable memory, droll sense of humor, and love of talk made him a most interesting person.
He leaves behind his son, Anthony of Ramona; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Dave Ballenger of Auburn; and dear friends, Don and Marie Grice, also of Auburn.
His remains will be scattered at sea off the coast of San Diego.
