Remembering Calvin Davis who passed away at his home in Auburn on October 12, 2012. He was born in Glenpool, Oklahoma to George L. Davis and Lillian B. Rogers. Cal later moved with his brother George to Arkansas City, Kansas where he discovered his love for art and theater. After graduation from Arkansas City High School in 1940, he attended Kansas State University, but college held little interest and he headed for Hollywood, California, hitchhiking along Route 66. He found work in the defense industry as a draftsman and later as a carpenter at Warner Brothers Studios. The acting bug bit and he moved to New York City where he enrolled at the prestigious American Academy of Dramatic Arts. His classmates included Elizabeth Montgomery, Gena Rowlands and John Cassavetes. Cal also met his future wife, Elizabeth Patterson. He returned to Hollywood with Liz and they married in 1954. Cal spent most of his professional career as vice president and plant manager for SWECO in Los Angeles where he raised a family. He and Liz relocated to Auburn in 1989.
For more than 60 years, Cal was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite, Knights Templar, Shriners (Ben Ali and El Bekal), and Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine. In 1970, he was installed Worshipful Master of Glendale Lodge No. 368. Cal was also a member of the Auburn Elks Lodge where he enjoyed attending Taco Tuesday with Liz.
Cal is survived by son James Davis of Auburn and daughter Suzanne Davis of Carmichael. Beloved wife Elizabeth passed in 2011.
