Michael Roy Young
9/30/1934-11/21/2016

Michael Roy Young, a resident of Cool, California for the past fourteen years and formerly a resident of San Mateo and San Carlos for 68 years, passed away in the loving arms of our Lord in his home on November 21, 2016, at the age of 82. Son of Roy and Mary Young, Mike was born in San Francisco, California on September 30, 1934. He is survived by his wife, Martha Rowley Young, twin sister, Marita Young Smith, and brother, Paul Young, and his children: Linda Moyer, Richard Young, Catherine Nakano, Michelle Baeza, Christopher Young, Daniel Young, John Young, Joseph Young, Mary Hanlon, Anthony Young, Roy Young, Theresa Young, 18 grandchildren, three great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mike grew up in San Mateo and attended St. Matthew's Catholic School and Serra High School, graduating in 1952. He then attended the University of San Francisco in the ROTC (Reserve Officers' Training Corps) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business. He then became active duty in the U.S. Army, stationed in El Paso, Texas, and Fairfield, California. After his service to our country, he worked for RCA Records as a salesman where he was able to enjoy his passion for Jazz Music. He then went on to work for his father's company, Marwood Limited, in San Francisco and then Electrical Specialties in Fremont. Throughout those years Mike and Martha raised their twelve children in San Carlos, where Mike spent most of his free time dedicated to doing activities with his children. With the strong Catholic faith that Mike and Martha shared, they made the decision that Mike would enter into the Deaconate program at St. Patrick's Seminary in Menlo Park. He was ordained a Deacon with the Catholic Church on June 26, 1999, at St. Mary's Cathedral in the San Francisco Archdiocese. He spent the next four years as a Deacon at St. Charles Church in San Carlos. In 2003 Mike and Martha decided to retire in Auburn, California. They then spent a year in Auburn and then decided to purchase property in Cool, spending the next thirteen years there. Mike spent his days in retirement being a Deacon at St. Joseph Church in Auburn, Diocese of Sacramento, and Prison Ministry: which he had built up and now has twelve volunteers representing the Catholic Church at Placer County Jail. His other passion was helping those in need and with the help of other parishioners at St. Joseph's they started a St. Vincent de Paul Conference, he also spent his time working in the local Catholic Bookstore. Mike also had a passion for reading, sports and history.
Services will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Auburn on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. and St. Charles Church on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. Interment service will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery after the reception. All are welcome to attend.
