Both born 1920 in Los Angeles, two weeks apart. Together for more than 70 years. Shared a wonderful, happy life as Affectionate Spouses, Devoted Parents, Grandparents, Great-grandparents, Best Friends, Supportive Partners and Enthusiastic Lovers of New Adventures. Raised eight children, welcomed more than 25 grandkids and great-grandkids.
Seeking adventure, packed up their kids for camping trips throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and continued to travel the world after retirement to Auburn. Encouraged a love of books and education - sending all eight kids through college. Faced life's challenges with grace, courage and humor. Both remained amazingly curious about life, people, politics, social issues, and learning throughout their lives.
Ray Roberts: World War II Veteran, went to Loyola Law School under the GI Bill. Lawyer, Los Angeles Commissioner, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge, Law School Instructor (San Fernando Valley and McGeorge Schools of Law). Family chef after retiring. Bernhard House Docent. At 92. still taking classes at CSU Sacramento and playing competitive bridge.
Polly Roberts: Returned to school when last child started kindergarten; CSU Northridge degrees in Sociology and Art. A co-founder of the Auburn Old Town Art Gallery, and an active member of Sacramento Artists Collaborative Gallery. Became an accomplished ceramics artist, transferring to a textile artist as she lost her sight to Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). Beautiful seamstress, talented Poet.
"Ah, Mom and Dad, we won the parent lottery with both of you. We will miss you a bushel and a peck." Children: Andy (Linda), Patti, Barbara (Fred), Mary, Bill (Liz), George (Judy), John (Kathy), (preceded in death by son, Steve), more than 25 grandkids and great-grandkids. Celebration of Life on Saturday, August 31, 2013.
