Tetsuko Hamasaki
1925 - 2013

Tetsuko (Sue) Hamasaki passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 17, 2013.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Noburu, three children, six grandchildren and a large extended family. She also leaves behind her brother Shoya Sakazaki (Ikuko) and sister Hideko Sakazaki.
She was born on February 20, 1925 in Clarksburg, Calif., to Kurato and Yukimi Sakazaki. Sue attended local schools until her family was interned at the Tule Lake Relocation Camp where she graduated high school. After World War II, she worked in Los Angeles until she married and settled with her new husband in Newcastle, where they raised their family.
Sue was the devoted mother to Donald (Joanie), Sally (Mark) Gies, Linda (Craig) Griffin and proud grandmother of Matthew and Tiffany Hamasaki, Brad and Lori Gies, Kelly (Ashley English) and Jeff Griffin.
She was a longtime active member of the Placer Buddhist Church. She enjoyed her family, working in the garden, canning, taking walks and doing "this and that."
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2013 at the Placer Buddhist Church in Penryn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Placer Buddhist Church Women's Association, 3192 Boyington Rd, Penryn, CA 95663.
