Richard Earl
1922 - 2012

Richard Earl Hubbard, life long resident of Auburn passed away at the age of 89. He loved working in his shop, hunting, and fishing. He had a generous heart and was a kind man who had many friends. His smile and twinkling blue eyes will be fondly remembered. Born in "Hubbardville" November 13, 1922, he had siblings Helen, Fred and Jim.
He graduated from Placer High in 1940 where he got his nickname Snuffy. He worked for the Forestry until he entered the Army Air Corps in 1943, serving as a fire fighter in North Africa, Corsica and Italy. He married Evelyn on September 20, 1946 and they shared 65 wonderful years together. They have three daughters, Ella Hrubant (Mark), Irene Deen and Susan Hubbard Owen (David).
He was a heavy equipment operator excavating for homes and businesses in the Auburn area. He was proud to have worked on the restoration of the State Capitol. He retired from the Don Robinson Construction Company in 1987.
Richard and Evelyn were devoted parents and grandparents attending every event they could. He loved to have them spend summer nights camping out and cooking on the grill. Grandchildren are Amy Lloyd Lewis (Jerry), Sara Lloyd DeTora (Danny), Aaron Deen, Brian Richard Deen (Kristine), Loralyn Owen and Deanna Owen. Great-grandchildren are Emerald Helmecy, Seven Lewis, and Zephyr DeTora.
He was a member of the Placer County Historical Society, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1942, Placer Sportsmen and AARP.
He spent many happy hours renovating their home with dear friends Bev and Dick Berlin and family. A celebration of life for Richard will be held at Lassila Funeral Chapel, 551 Grass Valley Highway, Auburn on March 16, 2012 at 2 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to .
