Jim was born in Fort Worth, Texas, on March 25, 1926. He came to California at an early age and resided in Sacramento area until joining the Navy where he served three years during World War II.
Shortly after the war Jim met Beverly at a Dance at the Veterans Hall in Sacramento. In January 1947 they married. They bought a home in Roseville and raised their two children Karen and Ed. Jim retired from the Roseville Post Office after 30 years of service.
Jim was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, having held many offices including Grand Knight. He had a lifelong love of singing and was a member of the Saint Rose Church Choir and the Maidu Singers. Dancing was something Jim and Bev enjoyed together their entire married life. Jim enjoyed many hobbies over his lifetime including scrimshaw carving, leather work, stamp and coin collecting, and working on crossword puzzles. Jim was "Mr. Fix It"; it seemed he could fix almost anything around the house or neighborhood. If it needed fixing or assembling, Jim could do it with a big smile and a twinkle in his eye.
Jim is survived by: his wife of 68 years, Beverly, daughter Karen (Bill) Netemeyer, son Ed (Donna) Nelson, grandchildren: Amy, Joe, Sarah, Jamie, and 12 great-grandchildren, his brother Stan Nelson, and many nieces and nephews.
