Passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010, in Auburn due to complications associated with liver cancer.
Survived by Denise "Cookie" Mitchell, his wife of nearly 45 years; eldest son Bruce Mitchell (Lisa) of Auburn; grandchildren Nicolas and Macaylea Mitchell; and youngest son Scott Mitchell (Wendy) of Lincoln.
A native of Sebastopol, Calif., aged 67 years. Larry was a 1960 graduate of Analy High School. Larry graduated Dartmouth College in 1964 with an AB in Engineering. During this time he also attended ROTC training. He received his MBA from Stanford University in 1966. From 1966 to 1968 Larry served as an Engineering Instructor at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. Larry worked for Hewlett-Packard for 29 years in the Bay Area, Puerto Rico and Roseville. He was instrumental in establishing HP-Puerto Rico and Roseville Terminal Division. Larry retired from HP Roseville as Site General Manager in 1997 and soon after established a consulting company. He served as a Board Member to many businesses including PRIDE Industries, Finisar, Placer Sierra Bank and U.S. Bank. He also served the community with his involvement in the United Way, Sacramento Chamber of Commerce, Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth, U.C. Davis Graduate School of Management, American Leadership Forum and Valley Vision.
Upon retirement Larry developed a love of nature, fly-fishing and golf. He also enjoyed watching his grandkids' sporting events. In 1997, he and his wife found a second home in Graeagle, Calif., where friends and family often gathered.
A private Memorial Service was held at Pleasant Hills Memorial Park on Friday, January 29, 2010 in Sebastopol, Calif. A full military burial was held at Sebastopol Memorial Lawn.
