James Hawk
8/23/1935 - 6/20/2012

James "Jim" Hawk, age 76, died suddenly at home in Auburn, Calif., on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, after a short illness.
Jim was born on August 23, 1935, in Greensburg, Pa., to Luther Hawk and Bessie Mae (Pershing) Hawk. He attended Greensburg High School in Greensburg, Pa., where he met his future wife, Connie Smail. He then attended Penn State where he earned a degree in engineering. Jim and Connie were married on June 14, 1955. They lived in Ohio, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania before moving to California. They lived in Hayward, Newark, Dublin, and finally settled in Auburn in 1982, where Jim built their new home, which their oldest son designed.
Jim worked for Overly Manufacturing, a specialty door company. He then worked for California Builders Supply, and for the last 15 years he worked for CAPCO in Sacramento.
Jim was interested in all sports, but especially baseball. He even coached two of his sons in Little League and supported his grand childrens' and great-grandchildrens' sports endeavors. Jim enjoyed attending Sacramento River Cats games with friends and family. He also enjoyed playing golf and working on his house and property.
Jim's greatest joys were raising his children and two of his grandchildren, hosting nine foreign exchange students, traveling with his wife, and improving his unique house. He will be especially remembered for his sense of humor, constant smile, strong work ethic, gentle teasing, and endless generosity.
Jim is survived by his wife, Connie Smail Hawk, and their four children: Micayla Diane Kromrey, also of Auburn, Doug Hawk and his wife Barbara, of Penn Valley, Calif., Keith Hawk and his wife Barbie, of Sacramento, and Bryan Hawk also of Sacramento; six grandchildren, Kristina and her husband Cliff, Katie and her husband James, Kelly, Kyle, Kasey, Tyler and Milanda; and six great-grandchildren, Gavin, Abigail, Autumn, Nora, Gage, and Hayden. He leaves behind two brothers, Don Hawk, of Melbourne, Fla., and Bill Hawk, of Greensburg, Pa., and a sister, Dorothy Hawk McKinney, of Palm Coast, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bob Hawk, of Greensburg, Pa. Jim also leaves behind many friends and colleagues who played very important roles in his life, and he in theirs.
Friends and family are welcomed and encouraged to attend a celebration of Jim's life on Wednesday evening, June 27, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, 1331 Lincoln Way, Auburn, Calif. A funeral service will be held at Chapel of the Hills on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 10 a.m. Burial will be held immediately following at the New Auburn Cemetery, 1040 Collins Dr., in Auburn. Friends are invited to join the family at these services and at a reception held at the family home immediately following interment.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers or donations, that you spend a little extra time enjoying the company of those you love.
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital and Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home for their help and support.
