Buster Machado, a lifelong Auburn resident, died in a tragic ATV accident Saturday night.
The 2009 Placer High School graduate loved the San Francisco Giants, his family, motorcycles, hunting, fishing, camping and being with friends.
He grew up helping his grandfather, Gil Machado, and father, Gary Machado, work at the family farm and store, Machado's Orchards in Bowman.
Buster first drove a tractor at age eight. He loved the family dog, a boxer named "Rudy." Buster was featured in the Auburn Journal many times throughout his lifetime. He won the greased pole climb and was pictured proudly holding the stick covered with cash during the Old Town Fourth of July celebration in 2004.
Buster enjoyed traveling and exploring new places, whether in the wilderness, or visiting foreign cities and countries. He took a memorable graduation trip to Europe with his beloved grandmother, Bobbi Machado.
Buster worked at Sierra Safety in Newcastle and Echo Valley Ranch in Auburn where he had many friends among staff and customers.
Buster is survived locally by his mother and stepfather, Laura and Paul Ferreira; father Gary and his wife Shawnie Machado; sister Libby Machado; step-brother and step-sisters Chance, Andé and Amanda Ferreira; aunt and uncle Susi and Gary Krezman. He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Annie Zwanzig, of Hutchinson, Kans.; uncle and aunt Robert and Tammy Underwood of Redlands; uncle Michael Zwanzig of Yucaipa; aunt Roseanne Lewis of Bakersfield; aunt and uncle Liz and Nelson Muniz of 29 Palms; aunt Peggy Zwanzig of Kennewick, Wash.; aunt and uncle Neva and Jerry Carlyle of Walla Walla, Wash.; and many more family and friends.
The family asks that any donations in Buster's memory be sent to the Humane Society of the Sierra Foothills, 2945 Bell Road, Auburn.
A celebration of his life is scheduled for 2 p.m. December 21, 2012 at the Auburn Seventh-day Adventist Church, 12225 Rock Creek Rd, Auburn, Calif. Reception will follow. If you are planning to attend please wear the San Franscico Giants colors.
