Frances Barrette Obituary

AUBURN - Frances T. Monahan Barrette, 84, of Sumner Street, Auburn, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010. With her loving family at her side, Frances died at University Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Barrette was born in Auburn on June 2, 1926 to Thomas and Carrie Monahan. She was a graduate of Holy Family High School and Auburn Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. Frances was employed as a registered nurse at Auburn Memorial Hospital for more than 40 years, working in the hospital's maternity ward. She was a woman of strong faith that attended daily mass for many years. Fran had a love for music, she enjoyed knitting, camping and playing pitch with her dear group of friends. Frances is survived by her husband of 61 years, Charles 'Jake' Barrette; four sons, David Barrette and his wife, Patty, of Syracuse, John Barrette and his wife, Susan, Stephen Barrette, Christopher Barrette and his wife, Mary Lou, all of Auburn; a sister, Rita Armstrong, of Elmira; nine grandchildren, Michael Barrette, Tayor Bullis, Amy Barrette, Allison Barrette, Andrea Barrette, Jason Barrette (Jess Martiellaro), Ryann Barrette (Ron Palmer), Fayebriel Barrette, Julianna Barrette; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Barrette was predeceased by two sisters, Audrey and Jean; and two brothers, Thomas and John Monahan. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, in St. Alphonsus Church. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fleming. Friends are invited to call on the family from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, prior to services, in St. Alphonsus Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Frances Barrette may be made to the Auburn Memorial Maternity Initiative.
