Gordon Wenig Obituary

On Dec. 13, 2016, Gordon B. Wenig, 89, who was born and lived most of his life in Lincoln Township in Audubon County, passed from this life to his eternal home with his Lord. His funeral services were on Dec. 15 at Marantha Village Chapel in Springfield, Mo., where he and Lola lived the past 10 years.
Gordon was born to William and Pearl (Shaw) Wenig at their farm home in Lincoln Township, Section 25 on Nov. 30, 1927. He worked with his dad on the farm until Feb. 1951 when her served in the U.S. Army for two years, near Atlanta, Ga. There he met and married Lola Ruth Crump and brought her back to the family farm south of Gray where they lived until he retired in 1993. They had four children: Linda, Debbie, Kay and Michael (or Mick) who all graduated from Audubon High School in the 1970s. He also sold Pioneer Seed Corn for many years.
In 1993, Gordon retired from farming and they moved into the city of Audubon until he began losing his eyesight. That caused them to move near one of their daughters, Debbie, in Springfield, Mo. As his sight got worse, in 2007, they moved into Marantha Retirement Village where they got more help. In early 2016, the last three to four months he was cared for by Preferred Hospice of Missouri, until the evening of Dec. 13, when he breathed his last. He was buried by Greenlawn North Funeral Homes in their cemetery.
Gordon and Lola celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this past May 20, 2016. Survivors are his wife, Lola; daughters, Linda of Cocoa, Fla., Debbie of Springfield, Mo., Kay of Vernal, Utah and son Michael of Danville, Calif., and their mates; plus 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family appreciates and thanks everyone for all their acts of love and kindness expressed to them. May God bless each one of you.
