Alverta H. Hansen (1917 - 2010)

Funeral services for Alverta H. Hansen, 93, were conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon. Interment was in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The honorary casket bearers were: Lisa Bolan, Julie Schroeder, Brooke Schroeder, Alexis Schroeder, Bailey Hansen, Chloe Hansen and Sophie Hansen. The casket bearers were: Shannon Bolan; James Hansen, Kyle Geurtz, Michael Bolan, Matthew Bolan and Jacob Schroeder. The Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon was in charge of the arrangements.
Alverta Helen Hansen, the daughter of Amiel and Hulda Fries Troll, was born Feb. 10, 1917, at her parents' home north of Walnut, and died May 1, 2010, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, at the age of 93 years, 2 months, and 19 days.
She attended rural school, Monroe #5 in Shelby County. After school, she worked cleaning houses for many families. She then worked for the Rubeck's family for several years doing house work and watching their children.
On Dec. 18, 1940, she was united in marriage to Walter P. Hansen at the Lutheran Parsonage in Walnut. Three children were born to this union. They farmed east of Corley, for ten years and then moved a mile west of Hamlin, where they farmed until they moved into Audubon.
Alverta was employed at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn for eleven years as a Nurses Aid and then was employed at the Friendship Home in Audubon for 34 years as a Nurses Aid until she retired in 1991. Walter died Sept. 13, 1988. She enjoyed her home in Audubon, until she moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon in July of 1994.
She was a member of the Hamlin Lutheran Church in Hamlin, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. Alverta enjoyed planting flowers, quilting and embroidering.
Preceding her in death was her husband Walter P. Hansen; her son: Gerald Hansen; her parents; her brother and sisters: Alvin and wife Lois Hansen; Wilfred Troll; Gertrude and husband John Jacobsen; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Dewey Hansen; Alvina and husband Einar Jacobsen.
Survivors include her children: Richard W. Hansen of Ralston, Neb.; Geraldene K. and husband Michael Bolan of Glenwood; her daughter-in-law: Jan Hansen of Denison; her grandchildren: Shannon and wife Susan Bolan of Grand Island, Neb.; Lisa Bolan of Glenwood; James and wife Shelia Hansen of Harlan; Julie and husband Jeremy Schroeder of Denison; her great grandchildren: Kyle Geurtz of Glenwood; Michael and Matthew Bolan of Grand Island; Brooke, Alexis, and Jacob Schroeder of Denison; Bailey, Chloe, and Sophie Hansen of Harlan; her brothers and sisters: Dorothy Randeris of Audubon; Leora Kirk of Elk Horn; Darlene Arp of Elk Horn; Ruth and husband Elmer Heimerman of Boone; Nancy Blum of Minneapolis, Minn.; her brother-in-law: Howard and wife Hazel Snider of Walnut; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
