Barbara was baptized at the Bethel Baptist Church in Harlan. She attended Harlan Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1957. While attending High School, Barbara was employed at the Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan.
On Oct. 2, 1959, she was united in marriage to Ralph Lee Jorgensen at the Bethel Baptist Church in Harlan. Five daughters, Coleen, Cindy, Cheryl, Charlene, and Cammy were born to this union. Barbara was a home maker while the children were young. She was employed as a nurse's aide at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, for many years then cleaned the United Methodist Church and the Congregational United Church of Christ both in Harlan until she retired due to her health.
Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church in Elk Horn. "She was a generous, kind, and giving person, always putting others before herself. She was an outstanding cook and baker and was known for trying new recipes from her vast collection of cookbooks and magazines. She was a friend to many, and always had time to stop and talk, sometimes for hours! She truly loved being around people. But what she treasured most was being a loving wife to Ralph, a supportive and caring mom to her '5 C's', devoted grandma to her grandchildren and fun 'GG' as lovingly known by her great grandchildren. Her faith in God was also important to her and helped shape a positive outlook on life and gave her strength."
Preceding her in death were her husband Ralph L. Jorgensen; and her parents.
