Family and friends are invited to a public memorial service for Barry J. Madsen, 65, at the Memorial Building located in Audubon, on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 2 pm.
Barry Joe Madsen was born at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, on Jan. 22, 1948 to Lewis and Bernadine Olivier. On June 24, 1950, Leonard and Hazel Madsen of Audubon, adopted him. Barry died Dec. 19, 2014 in Mesa, Ariz. He attended Audubon Community Schools graduating in 1966. He attended Dana College in Blair, Neb., graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, and received his MA in Professional Counseling from Ottawa University in Phoenix, Ariz. He was a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor. Barry worked 17 years for The New Foundation for troubled adolescents in Scottsdale, Ariz., followed by one year as a substitute teacher for Mesa Public Schools in Mesa, Ariz. His most recent job was with Banner Behavioral Hospital in Scottsdale, Ariz working with adults in Acute Care.
He is survived by his wife Jeannine Kuropatkin of Arizona, his son Lars Erik Madsen (Natasha) of California, his daughter Sarah Marie Madsen of Minnesota, his step- daughters Katie Bloodworth (Charles), Heather Tauveli (Lopeti), and Marisa Fort (Kevin) all of Arizona, seven grandchildren, his mother-in-law Sumiko Kuropatkin of California, his brothers Jerry S. Madsen of Arkansas, Bruce Bailey of Florida, Cecil W. Taylor, Paul Trajlinek of Connecticut, his sisters Alys (Bailey)Stull (Gordon) of Iowa, Susan Madsen of Missouri, Paula (Trajlinek) Johnson of Washington, and Mari L. (Madsen) Schultes (Leo) of Iowa, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends who were like family to him.
Flowers or memorials may be delivered after 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, at the Memorial Building.
