Funeral services for Bernice Barten, 65, were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Rev. Duane Simonsen officiating. Visitation was held at the funeral home from noon on Wednesday until the time of service. Casket bearers were Jerry Barten, Chris Barten, Josh Barten, Dylan Smith, and Troy Bigelow. Burial was in the Manning Cemetery.

Bernice Barten, of Rockwell City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Opportunity Living in Rockwell City.
Born on Apil 17, 1945 at Westside, Iowa, she was the daughter of Richard August and Ida Bertha (Zaiger) Barten. Bernice was admitted to Glenwood State Hospital School at four years of age and spent most of her life there until moving to Opportunity Living in 1991. She was baptized on May 11, 1947 at the home of her aunt and uncle Herman and Emma Keinast near Manning. She enjoyed rocking in her favorite chair, watching television, playing games, and being in the kitchen while meals were prepared.
She was preceded in death by parents, a brother Lloyd Barten, and a sister Leone Jo Ann in infancy.
Surviving are her brother Jerold Barten and his wife Sarah of Ankeny; and seven nieces and nephews.
