Funeral Services for Carol J. Miller, 86, were conducted by Pastor Gordon Buchholz on Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira. Interment was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Kimballton. The casket bearers were Tony Rubel, Neal Wolf, Charles Boldt, Doug Hansen, Gary Hansen and Mark Jorgensen. The Kessler Funeral in Exira was in charge of the arrangements.
Carol Jean Miller, the daughter of Marius and Anna (Nielsen) Jorgensen, was born April 24, 1930, at her parents' home in Shelby County near Kimballton, and died August 24, 2016, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, at the age of 86 years and 4 months.
Carol was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton. She attended Audubon County rural school near Kimballton then graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1949. Carol then was employed as a clerk at the Cass County Treasures Office in Atlantic.
On Oct. 1, 1954, she was united in marriage to Dale W. Miller at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They were blessed with one son, Dean. They operated a farm in the Exira/Brayton area for many years. Carol suffered a brain aneurysm in 1957 which affected her, the rest of her life. Carol was a homemaker then moved to the Exira Care Center in June of 1995 following an accident where she had broken her leg. After a farm accident, Dale joined her at the Exira Care Center in January of 1996. Dale died June 19, 2008.
Carol was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Audubon. She enjoyed playing cards, doing other activities and having coffee with her friends at the Care Center. Carol embroidered and made latch-hook rugs. She thoroughly enjoyed her pets especially her dog Friskie and her many cats. She also spent many hours gardening.
Preceding her in death in addition to her husband Dale were her parents; her brother Bervin Jorgensen; her sister Ardis Wolf; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Al Rubel, Doris Jorgensen, Harold L. Hansen, and Darlene Jorgensen; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Willie H. and Martha Miller.
Survivors include her son Dean Miller of Brayton; her brother Marvin Jorgensen of Exira; her sister Shirley Rubel of Atlantic; her sister-in-law Joan Hansen of Audubon; her brother-in-law Phillip and wife Jane Wolf of Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
