Mass of Christian Burial for Charles M. Roth, 89, was held Thursday, July 3, 2014 at St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church. The Reverend Greg Leach officiating. Pallbearers were Steve Stetzel, Chuck Roth, Paul Gibbins, Mike Roth, Tony Matkovich and David Crowe. Interment was in Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Military honors by Iowa Army National Guard.
Charles was born Feb. 15, 1925, in Audubon, the son of John and Ida (Winters) Roth, and died Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. He served in the US Army during WWII on the European Front. Charles was the recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, the Croix de guerre and the French fourragère.
Charles owned and operated Roth's Barber and Beauty Salon on Beaver Avenue, with his wife, Catherine, for 25 years, retiring in 1990. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his friends. Charles' passion was always his family.
Charles is survived by his wife of 65 years, Catherine, his son, Joseph M. (Vickie) Roth of Johnston, grandson, Steven J. Roth of Waukee, and his siblings, William Roth and Phyllis Larsen, both of Audubon, Joseph Roth of Panora, and Keith Roth of Cedar Rapids.
