Connie Johnson Obituary

Funeral services for Connie J. Johnson, 53, were conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. Interment was in the Exira Cemetery in Exira. Honorary casket bearers were: Scott Small, Howard Paulsen, and Gary Hansen. Casket bearers were: Tom Simpson, Mark Johnson, Jeff Roberts, Jason Roberts, Mike Johnson, and Charlie Simpson. The Kessler Funeral Home in Exira was in charge of the arrangements.
Connie Jean Johnson, the daughter of William Otto and Betty Jane Champlin Wede was born Oct. 15, 1958 at the Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, and died April 29, 2012 at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, at the age of 53 years, 6 months and 14 days.
Connie was baptized and confirmed at the United Lutheran Church in Shelby. She attended Tri-Center Community Schools in Neola graduating with the High School Class of 1977, where she was on the National Honor Society her Junior and Senior year and active in 4-H. She attended NCE School of Commerce in Omaha, Neb., graduating in May of 1978. She was employed with Allied Chemicals in Omaha for a couple of years. She then was employed with a CPA in Omaha for a short time before moving to Exira, in April of 1985.
On June 15, 1985 she was united in marriage to Gary Johnson at the United Lutheran Church in Shelby. Two children Katie and Jacob were born to this union. She worked at the Heritage House in Atlantic, for a short time and then was employed at the Exira High School, in Exira, as a secretary. In May, of 1992, she was employed at the Audubon County Treasurers Office in Audubon, and in November of 2010 she was elected as the Audubon County Treasurer.
Connie was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira. She was a member of the church council where she served as secretary and was also a Sunday School teacher for many years. Connie enjoyed going camping and taking the pontoon out on the lake. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Preceding her in death was her father William O. Wede; her mother-in-law and father-in-law Oliver and La Deane Johnson; and her brother-in-law Jerry Johnson.
Survivors include her husband Gary Johnson of Brayton; her children: Katie Johnson of Exira; Jacob Johnson of Ames; her step-children: Julie Johnson of Exira; Nick and wife Tyana Johnson and their son Colson all of Rudd; her mother Betty and husband Ken Berg of Shelby; her brother and sister: Ron Wede of Audubon; Donna Wede and special friend Jeff Wickersham both of Cedar Falls; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Mary Johnson of Exira; Penny Nelsen of Exira; Peggy and husband Scott Van Den Berg of Pella; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
