Craig A. Twist, 62, of Melrose, Massachusetts, passed away suddenly in Lyman, Maine on April 13, 2012.
Craig was an active Massachusetts State Police Trooper who served as a Court Prosecutor out of the Revere State Police Barracks. He was a former enlisted United States Marine who was awarded a Purple Heart for his service during the Vietnam War.
Craig is survived by his wife of 39 years, Claire M. Twist (formerly Claire Rooney) – an elementary school teacher at Winthrop School in Melrose. He was very active in the lives of their four-year old granddaughter, Courtney Twist – who affectionately referred to Craig as "Bucky." Craig is also survived by son Brian Twist, of Melrose and York, Maine, son Michael Twist of Lyman, Maine.
Craig co-founded Twist Family Motors of Cumberland, Maine and worked alongside his son Michael running that business. He was a native of Audubon, and owned Twist Family Farms on the same farmland where he grew up on in that hometown. Craig enjoyed spending as much time as possible with wife Claire at their vacation home in Wells, Maine, as well as tinkering in his shop on various vehicles, racecars, antique tractors or heavy equipment. He had a particular fondness for Corvette sports cars and John Deere tractors and could often be seen driving his yellow Corvette while wearing one of his green John Deere hats. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and had several memorable trips with his wife and sons through the years. His favorite trip though was when he took granddaughter Courtney to Florida's Walt Disney World for her first time in 2011 along with his wife and both sons.
Craig's influence on his two sons was great. Son Brian followed his father into the field of Law Enforcement and is currently a dispatcher and police officer for the Town of York, Maine. Son Michael inherited his love for machinery at a young age and together they spent countless hours at one of their shops, various racetracks or at car auctions.
Craig was the caring brother-in-law of Mary Ann and David Thibeault of Wakefield and James & Melinda Rooney of Texas. Also survived by several nieces & nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Craig's name to Toys for Tots, P.O. Box 391 Weymouth, Mass. 02190. For obituary and to sign guest book visit
