Donald Lee Cerka, the son of Ora and Ida (Ludwig) Cerka, was born Oct. 11, 1951, at the Carroll Hospital in Carroll, and died Dec. 20, 2017, at the Guthrie County Hospital in Guthrie Center, at the age of 66 years, 2 months, and 9 days.
Donald was baptized and confirmed at the Ross Evangelical United Brethren Church in Ross. He attended rural school in Audubon County, the Gray School and the Viola School when they were consolidated and then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1969.
Donald was employed at Trausch where he repaired and refurbished refrigeration units. He worked there for many years the later was employed at Bohlmann and Sons Sanitation until he had to retire due to his failing health. Donald lived in Cameron Township, Audubon County until 1979 when he moved into Audubon to help care for his mother. Later he made his home in Guthrie Center, for the past several years.
Donald loved animals and raised exotic birds and fish. He enjoyed fishing and woodcarving and carved birds, clocks, and pictures.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother Ronald Cerka; his brother-in-law Larry Nielsen; and his great-grandparents August and Bertha Cerka and William and Katharine Ludwig.
Survivors include his sister Barbara Nielsen of Audubon; his nieces and nephew Lori and husband Jeff Weatherhead of Little Elm, Texas, Angela and husband John Mickelson of Keokuk, and Michael Nielsen of Audubon; his grand- nephews Austin Nielsen of Emmetsburg, Zachary Nielsen of Humboldt, nd Balin and Preston Weatherhead of Little Elm, Texas; other relatives and friends.
Following cremation the family will have a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at a later date.
