Dorothy Gude (Heuss) Elliott (1929 - 2017)

The Guest Book is expired.

Dorothy Jean Heuss Gude Elliott, 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior April 2, 2017, at the Western Assemblies Home in Claremont, Calif.
Dorothy was born in Audubon on Oct. 20, 1929 to Otto and Marie (Block) Heuss. She was the fourth of five children; Marion (Heuss) Aston, Harley Heuss, George Heuss, and Robert Weise.
Dorothy attended school in Gray and Audubon High School. After graduating from high school, Dorothy married Dale LaVerne Gude, on April 17, 1949, the couple had two children. Until the birth of her first child, she taught in a one room school house in Audubon. The family moved from Audubon to Los Angeles, Calif., in 1957 and returned to Iowa in 1958. In 1960, the family moved back to California and settled in Lennox.
Dorothy was an active member in the community, loved gardening, and worked for the Lennox School District. Following Dale's death on Dec. 2, 1973, Dorothy remained single until 1979. She met James Harry Elliot; was married Dec. 23, 1979 in Glendora, Calif. The couple moved to Fallbrook for a few years, but returned to Claremont, volunteering at the Western Assemblies Home, an assisted living facility. She and Harry moved into Western Assemblies Home after a stroke left her fatigued and slower. Harry passed away Nov. 12, 2013, but Dorothy continued to lead many of the daily activities, and particularly Bible Study while living at the home. She also taught Sunday school for many years and was involved with AWANA. Her faith and relationship with Jesus Christ was apparent in all she did each moment of every day. Dorothy enjoyed preparing, serving and hosting many dinners and baking cookies for various events. If anyone did not have a place to go on any given holiday, they would be welcome in her home and at her table. She will be remembered as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife that put God first in her life and encouraged everyone to do the same, love Him and accept Jesus as Savior and Lord.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands Dale Gude and J. Harry Elliott, her grandparents, her parents, siblings, aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her children, Monica (Gude) Lolley and Jeff and Sallie (Williamson) Gude; her step-children Rod and Cindy (Elliott) Chance, David Elliott, Tim and Pam (Elliott) McKay, and Scott and Jodi (Bowers) Elliott; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, aunts and cousins.
