A memorial service for Dorothy Elwood Hill, 74, of Scottsdale, Ariz., was held Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at Pinnacle Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale.
Dorothy, the daughter of Alice Gamber and John Willis Elwood passed away on Jan. 28, 2010 at the age of 74.
A native of Iowa, Dorothy is a graduate of Drake University in Des Moines, where she taught third grade for several years. She moved to Scottsdale in 1979 and has been active in real estate sales since that time. In both 1996 and 1997, she received Salesperson of the Year Award from the Arizona Home Builders Association and in 2004 the Scottsdale Chapter of Women's Council of Realtors named her Realtor of the year. She was a former member of the Women Council of Realtors, a 50-year member of P.E.O., chapter Al, Scottsdale and Pinnacle Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale.
Preceding her in death was her first husband, Charles Edward Shaw on July 5, 1977.
Survivors include two children and three grandchildren: daughter, Susan Shaw Doll and husband Jon of Waukee, and son Kirk Elwood Shaw, Scottsdale, Ariz. Grandchildren: Cory Scott Tonnemacher; Charles "Chase" Shaw of Scottsdale and Megan Jean Tonnemacher of Waukee. Other survivors include sisters, Ruth Rasmussen and husband Erling, Fairfield Bay, Ark., and Mary M. Hansen, Forest City, Iowa. There are also six nieces and nephews, many friends, and a cousin, Dr. Herbert H. Gamber of Richland, Wash.
