Everett Earl Derry, 99, of Bayard, died on Nov. 18, 2015 at his home in Bayard at the age of 99 years, 5 months, 11 days. Everett was born on June 7, 1916, in Greenbrier Township, Greene County, to Marshall and Mary Derry. Everett's funeral was held Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Bayard. His pastor and friend Robert Rogers of the Church of Christ presided. Honorary casket bearers were Bradley Derry, Ronda Tews, Wade Derry, Jason Derry, Deena Hamilton, Gregory Derry, Jeffrey Derry, Antoinette Freier, Elizabeth Delay, Alexander Derry, Curtis Derry, Michelle Vogl, Molly Hays, Katie Jo Andrews, Ryan Derry and Amanda Derry. Everett's casket bearers were Marty Derry, Kristine Riesberg, Sheri McCann, Benjamin Derry, Chris Derry, Justin Derry and Adam Derry. Music was by Lula Garnes who played the organ and solos were by Randy Andrews, Zach Svoboda and Brian Riesberg Hymns were The Old Rugged Cross, Amazing Grace and My Chains Are Gone. Burial was at Highland Township Cemetery, rural Bayard. The Bayard Church of Christ ladies served the lunch at the American Legion Hall, in Coon Rapids. Everett grew up in that area, attending rural schools.
Everett married Elma "June" Lewis on March 30, 1940. They were parents of eight children, Ronald, Lanny, Robert, Michael, Steven, Rodney, and Andrew and one daughter Patricia who died in 1958. The couple lived on his father's farm for a year before moving to a farm at the Cooper corner where they lived for three years.
In 1945 they moved to their farm in Bayard. Everett and June moved into Bayard in 1980, but he continued to farm until his death. Everett enjoyed watching football, baseball and basketball and in later years his television set made that possible.
He loved his family and made an effort to watch their sports and activities. Everett was a member of the Bayard Church of Christ.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents; wife Elma "June"; daughter Patricia; great-granddaughter Ellie; brothers Charles, Walter, Clifford and Roscoe Derry; sisters Mae, Lucille Kendall and Madeline Ganoe; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Everett's memory will be always be in the hearts of his children; Ronald (Joan) of Bagley; Lanny (Lois) of Woodward; Robert (Martha) of Menlo; Michael (Sherrie) of Boone; Steven (Suzann) of Audubon; Rodney (Brenda) of Webster City; Andrew (Tracy) of Jefferson; his beloved sister Loraine Marks of Trenton, S.C.; 24 grandchildren: Marty and wife Cindy; Brad and wife Cindy; Ronda Tews (Shawn); Kristine Riesberg (Brian); Wade (Deb); Jason (Gina); Deena Hamilton (Justin); Sheri McCann (Randy); Gregory Derry; Jeff (Natalie); Mike Vanhoff; Antoinette Freier (Donald); Benjamin (Jennifer); Elizabeth Delay (Dax); Alexander Derry; Chris (Jaqueline); Curtis (Danielle); Michelle Vogl (Lance); Molly Hays (Brian); Justin (Shaunna); Katie Jo Andrews (Randy); Ryan Derry; Adam (Kelly); Amanda Svoboda (Zach); 39 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Everett is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
