Freida Lucille Pope was born on March 13, 1920 in Douglas Township, Audubon County, and passed away in Gladstone, Ore., from natural causes on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at the age of 95.

Born to Fred and Pearl Schroeter, Freida grew up with her brother, Harold, on her parents' farm in Audubon. She was baptized in the Bethany Evangelical Church on June 19, 1921. As a young woman, she taught school in a one room school house. Later, she worked at Bill Gillen Farm Implements in Atlantic, with her best friend and roommate June Peterson, unaware that she would eventually marry her friend's brother.
She was married in Avoca on May 3, 1953 to Millard Everett Pope, known as Everett. Together, they moved to Milwaukie, Ore., where she became a bank teller for First State Bank and later a bookkeeper for Pendleton Woolen Mills, where she worked for 28 years until her retirement in 1983. She worked hard and sacrificed much to provide for her family.
Her hobbies included; reading, crocheting, working crossword and word find puzzles, and knitting dishcloths for family and friends. She most loved spending time with her family.
During her life, Frieda attended Concord Christian Church in Milwaukie and later Oregon City Evangelical Church in Oregon City, Ore., where she was active in the PrimeTimers Ministry, a group for those 55 and older.
Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Everett in 1974, and her brother Harold, in 2009. She is survived by her daughters Laurie Stevens (Ross) of Newport, Ore.; Leah Bellamy (John) of Oregon City, Ore.; and Shirley Peery (Donald "DJ") of Oregon City, Ore..; 13 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Her ashes were interred next to her husband's at Riverview Abbey in Portland, Ore.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Oregon City Evangelical Church, 2014 Linn Avenue, Oregon City, Ore. 97405. Memorial donations may be made to the PrimeTimers Ministry c/o the church.
