Funeral services for Glen D. Clemsen, 83, were conducted by Pastor Keith Menter on Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn. Interment was in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn. The casket bearers were his grandsons: Greg Towne, Dillon Clemsen, Aaron Clemsen, Emmet Clemsen, Garnner Clemsen, Jerrid Clemsen, Riley Finn, Keenan Finn, and Joseph Gajda. The Kessler Funeral Home in Exira was in charge of the arrangements.
Glen Dale Clemsen, the son of Arthur H. and Meta C. (Michaelsen) Clemsen, was born Oct. 7, 1928, at his parents' home in Audubon County near Exira, and died Sept. 13, 2012, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, at the age of 83 years, 11 months, and 6 days.
Glen was baptized and confirmed at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn. He attended rural school Oakfield #2, the Viola Center School, and graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1947. He then helped his father operate the family farm. On Feb. 1, 1951, he was inducted into the United States Army. During his tour of duty he served in Korea. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 11, 1952, then returned to the family farm.
On April 24, 1954, he was united in marriage to Rosa Jensen at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. Five children: Laurie, Bryan, Susan, Jan and Joy were born to this union. On the family farm they grew grain and raised livestock for many years until he retired from farming in 2003. After retiring, Glen continued to raise a few cattle and help out his son with the farming. Glen loved doing lawn work and tending his garden. Together Glen and Rosa enjoyed visiting Denmark and spending time with family and friends.
Glen was a lifelong member of the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. He served on the church council and the cemetery board. He was also a member of the American Legion.  
Preceding him in death were his parent; his sister LaVonne and brother-in-law LeRoy Glissmann; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Jens and Johanne Jensen; and his sister-in-law Annabelle and brother-in-law Arthur Hansen.
Survivors include his wife Rosa Clemsen of Exira; his children: Laurie Towne of Fort Dodge; Bryan (Shari) Clemsen of Brayton; Susan (Steve) Finn of Harlan; Jan Clemsen of West Des Moines; Joy (John) Gajda of Lindenhurst, Ill.; his grandchildren: Megan (Jon) Eastman, Greg, Kirsten, and Maria Towne, Dillon, Aaron, Emmet, Garnner, and Jerrid Clemsen, Katey, Riley and, Keenan Finn, Joseph, Sarah and, Rachel Gajda; his great-grandchildren: Julia  and Kyle Eastman; his brothers: Virgil (Vi) Clemsen of Coon Rapids; and Lyle (Jane) Clemsen of Clarion; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
