Joint funeral services for Ruby M. Rasmussen, 86, and Harry M. Rasmussen, 94, were conducted by Rev. Dr. Ron Yarnell on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon. Interment was in the Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery west of Audubon. The casket bearers were Jake Anderson, Mike McCain, Pedro Mendoza, Ronald Nielsen, Micah Rasmussen, Chad Gorman, Norman Nissen, Mark Klever, Herb Anciaux and Vern Meyer. The Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon was in charge of the arrangements.
Harry Marvin Rasmussen, the son of Martin P. and Elizabeth Nielsen Rasmussen, was born June 8, 1918, at his parents' home in Douglas Township, Audubon County, and died July 23, 2012, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, at the age of 94 years, 1 month, and 15 days.
Harry was baptized and confirmed at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon. He attended rural school in Douglas Township and later attended classes at Dana College in Blair, Neb. Harry worked for a brief time in Omaha, and during World War II he worked in the shipyards in Oregon. After the war he returned to farm with his father.
On Oct. 3, 1946, he was united in marriage to Ruby Mae Jensen. Four children, Sheryl, Norlan, Marvin and an infant son, were born to this union. Harry farmed west of Audubon where he grew row crops and raised livestock until he retired.
Harry was an active, life-long member of Ebenezer Lutheran Church and held several teaching and leadership positions, including President of the Church Council. He was also a member of The Gideons International and served on the board of the Salem Homes in Elk Horn.
Harry moved to the Friendship home in 2010. In his later years, he always enjoyed talking about farming and working his daily word puzzles. He often amazed friends and family with his sharp memory of local people and events.
Harry was preceded in death by an infant son; his son-in-law David Burmaster; his sister Mildred and husband Einer Nissen; his sisters-in-law: Evelyn and husband Raymond Nielsen and Carrie Jensen.
His wife Ruby Rasmussen died July 26, 2012. He is survived by his children: Sheryl Burmaster of Minneapolis, MN, Norlan and wife Lois Rasmussen of Audubon, and Marvin and wife Beth Rasmussen of Jefferson; his grandchildren: Dana Burmaster and Steve Harkin of Madison, Wisc., Nicole and husband Mike McCain of Minneapolis, Minn., Leslie and husband Chad Gorman of Eau Claire, Wisc., Stephanie and husband Jake Anderson of Atlantic, Micah Rasmussen of West Carthage, N.Y., and Miriam and husband Pedro Mendoza of Spring, Texas; his great-grandchildren: Bennett and Natalie McCain, Jack and Ty Gorman, and Luke and Abigail Anderson; his nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
