Jane Whitaker

A memorial service for Jane Whitker, 77, will be at 2 p.m. Sat, Sept. 17, 2011 at the Bradley & Hadley Funeral Home, Clinton, Mo. A private family burial will be held at a later date at Englewood Cemetery, Clinton, Mo. The family suggests memorial contributions to the . Condolences may be left online at www.bradleyhadley.com. A gathering of friends and family for cake and coffee will be held following the service. Jane (Close) Whitaker, 77, of rural Clinton, Missouri, died peacefully Sunday, September 11, 2011 at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton, Missouri. She was surrounded by members of her family.
Jane (Close) Whitaker was born August 31, 1934 in Atchison County, Missouri to Edward Close and Lottie (Rader) Close. On May 2, 1954 at the First Christian Church in Maryville, Mo., she married Wayne Herbert "Herb" Whitaker, Jr., who passed away September 18, 2009. To this union, five children were born: Ron, Gail, todd, Tim, and Terri.
She was baptized and became a member of St. Oswald Church in Fairfax, Mo. Jane was a 1952 graduate of Fairfax High School, Fairfax, Mo. She was involved in many school activities and was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1951. In the fall of 1952, she attended airline school in Omaha, Neb., and received her diploma. In 1953 she went to Maryville, Mo., and worked for Grays Insurance Company. Soon after moving to Maryville, she met and married Herb Whitaker. In 1956 they started their family. For many years, Jane was a stay-at-home mother, filling her time raising the children and enjoying arts and crafts, a hobby that filled the rest of her days. In approximately 1975, while residing in Audubon, Jane started a long career in the banking business as a teller for the Audubon State Bank. As the family moved, Jane continued to work for banks in the following towns; Higginsville, Mo., Columbia, Mo., and Clinton, Mo., up to her retirement. Jane's passion in life, first and foremost, was her family. Jane's legacy is being the family historian, compiling and labeling an amazing and extensive collection of pictures and artifacts going back generations. She even found time to write a wonderful book called "Hill-Filly Jane", a collection of her memories living in Missouri and Iowa.
Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Wayne Herbert "Herb" Whitaker, Jr.
Survivors include their children; Ron Whitaker and wife Donna, of Kansas City, Mo.; Gail Pieper and husband Joe, Sioux City; Todd Whitaker and wife Tammy, of Liberty, Mo.; Timothy Whitaker, of Clinton, Mo.; and Terri Gilkey and husband Cecil, Higginsville, Mo.; grandchildren, Zach and Keri Whitaker, Kansas City, Mo., Kyle and Kim Whitaker, Kearney, Mo., Adam Whitaker, Kansas City, Mo., Eric Anderson, Pasadena, California, Jamey Anderson, Ames Iowa, Joshua Whitaker, Kansas City, Mo., Ashley and Ryan Allen, Kearney, Mo., Haley Whitaker, Kansas City, Mo., Chelsey Lockington, Leavenworth, Kan., Isaac Whitaker, Carrolton, Texas, and Eric Gilkey, Higginsville, Mo.; eleven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
