Kenneth Leslie McPherson

Funeral services for Kenneth L. McPherson, 64, were conducted by Pastor Steven Frock and Rev. John McPherson on Thursday, April 21, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment was in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The honorary casket bearers were his grandsons Brock Hutchison, Brayden Sporrer, Landon McPherson, and Camden Sporrer. The casket bearers were Dennis Deist, Doug Weston, John Gruss, Roger Merk, Kevin Loftus, Scott Frohlich, Tom McCollum and Steve Johnston. The Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon was in charge of the arrangements.
Kenneth Leslie McPherson, the son of Carl and Ione Mack McPherson was born March 2, 1947, in Carroll, and died April 16, 2011, at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, following a brief battle with cancer, at the age of 64 years, 1 month and 14 days.
Ken was baptized in the Methodist Church and later confirmed on May 14, 1978, at the Hamlin Lutheran Church in Hamlin. He attended Audubon County Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1965. On Feb. 16, 1966 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. During his tour of duty he served stateside as a clerk/typist in Hospital Company 1st Army, Ireland Army Hospital, Ft. Knox Kentucky. He then served in the reserves for 2 years and was honorably discharged on Feb. 15, 1972. He returned to Audubon and was employed at Talbot Carlson Incorporated as a carpenter.
On March 26, 1976, Ken was united in marriage to Connie Hansen at the Hamlin Lutheran Church in Hamlin. Three children Dawn, Leslie, and Adam were born to this union. Ken continued to work for TCI until August of 1976. He then was employed at Franck Brothers, Inc. in Audubon. On Oct. 1, 1983, Ken and Connie purchased the business. They have operated Audubon Plumbing, Heating & Service since that time.
Ken was a member of the Hamlin Lutheran Church in Hamlin, and had served on the church board. He was a member of the Audubon Chamber of Commerce for several years and served on the chamber board. He loved to grill and could be seen grilling year round. Ken enjoyed gardening; he raised the produce and then enjoyed giving it to all his friends and neighbors. Ken loved to Country Dance. He always enjoyed their family vacations at the Outer Banks of North Carolina. But above all, Ken was best known for his stories and jokes which he loved to share with everyone.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; his father-in-law Dalton Hansen; and brother-in-law Corley Hansen.
Survivors include his wife Connie McPherson of Audubon; his children: Dawn and husband Jeff Martin of Des Moines; Leslie and husband Brian Sporrer of Audubon, and Adam and wife Brook McPherson of Ames; his grandchildren: Brock Hutchison of Des Moines, Brayden Sporrer and Camden Sporrer both of Audubon, and Landon McPherson of Ames; his mother-in-law Shirley Hansen of Audubon; his brothers and sisters: David and wife Dai McPherson of Fresno, Calif., Ben and wife Barbara McPherson of Aiken, S.C., Chris and wife Karen McPherson of Wolfforth, Texas, Reverend John and wife Jean McPherson of Wilsonville, Ala., Rosemary and husband Bobby Schiffman of Pampa, Texas; his sisters-in-law Lorrie Davis and partner Tom McCollum of Winnebago, Minn. and Pattie and Scott Frohlich of Harlan; his beloved cat Max; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
