Mass of the Christian Burial for Lawrence Schultes, 90, of Carroll was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant was Fr. Timothy Schott. Music was by Marcy Anderson and the St. Lawrence Choir. Lectors for the funeral mass were Lawrence's daughter, Linda Irlmeier and Lawrence's son, Larry Schultes. Gift Bearers were Lawrence's sons: George Schultes and Jerry Schultes. Eucharistic Ministers were: Arlene Dalhoff, Jim Mader and Mary Jo Franske. Casket Bearers were Lawrence's grandchildren. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Dedham American Legion. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.
Born on Aug, 20, 1923 on the family farm south of Dedham, Lawrence Frank was the son of George and Frances (Nepple) Schultes. He died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013 at his residence in Carroll. He grew up near Dedham and attended St. Mary's School in Willey and St. Joseph's School in Dedham. At a young age Lawrence began helping his father with their farm operation. Lawrence served in the United States Army from 1946-1947 and was assigned to Rehabilitation Occupational Japan following the signing of the peace treaty. On Sept. 22, 1952 he was united in marriage to Marjorie Haubrich at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dedham with Fr. Henry Pick officiating. The couple was engaged in grain and livestock farming their entire lives, having lived in the Dedham area until 1979, when they moved to a farm near Exira. Lawrence had a passion for farming and passed his strong work ethic down to his family. In 1996 Lawrence and Marjorie moved to the Carroll Community. After moving to Carroll he became a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Carroll Knights of Columbus and also volunteered at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll. He was a member of the Dedham American Legion and a former member of the Exira Lions Club. Lawrence was a simple man with a strong devotion to his faith and his entire family.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mildred Heithoff; his daughter, Mary Kay; his grandson, Jacob Schultes; and his siblings: Marcella Brincks, Albin Schultes, George Schultes, Mary Margaret Mader, and Leonard Schultes.
Survivors include his wife Marjorie of Carroll; his children: Tom Schultes and wife Lorilyn of Anita, Lori Molle and husband Bruce of Audubon, Jerry Schultes and wife Mary of Audubon, Larry Schultes and wife Diane of Murray, Linda Irlmeier and husband Tim of Audubon, and George Schultes and wife Connie of Exira; 28 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-granchildren; his in-laws: Lorraine Schultes of Dedham, Maxine Haubrich of Carroll, Shirley Haubrich of Manning, Melva Haubrich of Carroll, Irene Ankenbauer of Carroll, Mary Lou Kasperbauer of Longmont, CO, Norma (Ron) Irlbeck of Anaheim, CA, Donna Grimm of Longmont, CA, Ronald (Charlotte) Haubrich of Carroll, and Helen Heithoff of Coon Rapids; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended relatives.
