Leila Lorena Essington
Graveside services for Leila "Lorena" Essington, 94, were conducted by Pastor Steven Frock at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Oakfield Cemetery near Brayton. Military service was provided by the Brayton American Legion.
Leila "Lorena" Essington passed away on April 9, 2011 at Ramsey Village in Des Moines.
She was born on Dec. 14, 1915, in Cass County, to William and Annie Stender Essington. She was a graduate of Exira High School and a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran. She was a retired teacher with the Des Moines public schools, with over 50 years of service, and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother Frank Essington, and sisters, Evelyn Beck and Mary Jeanette Whalen.
She is survived by a sister, Carolyn Chesterman of Des Moines and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League.
