Lois Jean Rasmussen passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 23, 2014 at home in San Ramon, CA. She was born Jan. 19, 1930 in Villisca, the oldest of eight children, to the late Arnold and Helen (Jensen) Petersen. She was baptized May, 1930 in Kimballton, and confirmed at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Audubon May, 1944. Lois attended Audubon High School, graduating in 1948. Later that year, Nov. 7th, Lois married her childhood sweetheart, Bill Rasmussen. Five children were born of this union: Pamela, Susan, William, Jr., Jane and Jeff.
Lois and Bill moved to California in 1957, raising their five children in San Lorenzo. Lois was a stay-at-home Mom until 1967, when she went to work for Bank of America. Lois loved to cook and bake, and her kids fondly remember coming home from school to the smell of freshly baked cookies. Upon retiring from Bank of America in 1990, Lois and Bill moved to Brentwood. They immediately installed a swimming pool in their backyard to make sure the grandkids would love to visit. Lois' greatest joy came from spending time with family, whether it was at home, their cabin at Lake Tahoe, or the many family vacations and cruises they shared. Lois and Bill often visited the Danish town of Solvang, CA. to reflect on their heritage. One of their favorite vacations was a trip to Europe with Lois' sisters, Charlotte Finnerty and Marilyn Anderson; brother-in-law Andy Anderson; and cousin Ron Graham. They also visited Audubon as often as they could, spending time with relatives and old friends. Lois was an avid Oakland Raider fan and season ticket holder and spent many a Sunday tailgating and attending football games with family. Above all, Lois was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother. She will be truly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William Rasmussen; sisters Gloria Munch and Charlotte Finnerty.
Lois is survived by her daughters Pamela (Richard) Lueck, Susan (Dennis) Eagleton and Jane (Tom) Laris; sons William Rasmussen, Jr. and Jeffrey (Debra) Rasmussen; brothers Wayne "Lefty", Jerry and Randy Petersen; sisters Elizabeth Schrader and Marilyn Anderson; grandchildren Tony, Jeremy, Jason, Alisa, Kevin, Kellie, Kristen, Tracie, Michael, Aimee and Arick; and great-grandchildren Daphne, Samantha, Ava, Samuel, Aiden, Justin, Kaylee, Dylan, Brayden, Jordyn, Clayton, Jaiden, Carter, Isaiah and Keegan; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and the light of her life, her beloved dachshund, Dollie. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
