Lyle was employed with Detlefsen Electric of Manning for a short time. During this time he also helped operate the family farm.
On May 21, 1953, he was united in marriage to Colleen Cerka at St. John's Lutheran Church in Audubon. Two sons Joel and Matthew were born to this union.
