Mark Edward Nielsen (1942 - 2016)

Celebration of life services for Mark E. Nielsen were held Nov. 19, 2016 at Laguna Woods Village in California. Following cremation his final resting place will be in California.
Mark Edward Nielsen was born March 3, 1942 in Harlan and died Nov. 12, 2016 at his home in Laguna Woods Village.
Mark was the first of four children born to Earhardt Nielsen and S. Marie Thomsen Nielsen. Mary, Tom and Carl followed him.
His early childhood was spent in Jacksonville. The family moved to Audubon when Mark was two years old. He graduated from Audubon High School and attended Dana College in Blair, Neb. He also served in the Iowa National Guard.
Business ventures took him to Texas, Arizona and finally to California where he was the merchandising manager for National Lumber. He was an early proponent of energy efficient lighting and worked in this field for many years.
After more than 30 years of living in Newport Beach, he moved to Laguna Woods Village, where he lived until his death.
Mark is survived by his sister, Mary of Pittsburgh, Texas, brother Tom and wife Joan of Audubon, and his brother Carl and wife, Sarah of Hyattsville, Md.; his nieces and nephews: Carla (Jeff) Swank, Jeff (Trisha) Nielsen, Lorri (Luis) Sanchez, Brian (Pam) Roberts, Joanna (Mike) Clark, Britt (Marcos) Nielsen-Hurmann, Mark (Michelle) Nielsen and Krista (Marc) Umile; great-nephews and great-nieces; and friends from coast-to-coast and in-between are also happy to have been a part of Mark's life.
