Graveside services for Mary L. Conklin, 86 of Grand Island, Neb., formerly of Audubon, will be held in Audubon, and inurnment will be in Arlington Heights Cemetery.
Mary Conklin was born Dec. 26, 1925 along with her identical twin sister, Martha in Ross, the daughter of Fred and Evelyn Davis, and passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012 at Tiffany Square in Grand Island, Neb.
Mary was united in marriage to William Wiges in 1948, with whom she had two sons. She later married Dwight Conklin in July of 1968.
Mary grew up on her parents' farm in Audubon County graduating from Exira High School in 1944. In the fall of 1944, Mary and her twin sister moved to Des Moines, to attend beauty school. After graduating they opened up a beauty shop called "Twin's Hair Salon" in Audubon. Mary and Martha worked together until 1959 when Mary became a State Health Inspector. She worked for the state of Iowa for over 31 years, traveling throughout the western half of the state.
She had many friends, enjoyed talking with her sisters and shopping. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and will be missed by many.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dwight Conklin and her sister Jane Larsen.
Survivors include her sons, Randy Wiges of Grand Island, and Terrill Wiges of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Lindsey Wiges of Saint Petersburg, Fla., and Chase Wiges of Kansas City, Mo.; her two sisters, her twin, Martha Renflte of Indianola, and Joann Patrick of Carson.
