Melvin Jake Knudson (1925 - 2017)

Melvin Jake Knudson, 91, the son of Jacob B. and Molly (Nelson) Knudson, was born on Oct. 11, 1925, on his parents' farm near Kirkman, and died March 28, 2017. He attended Danway School, and graduated from Kirkman High School. He entered into the U.S. Army in March of 1945. He served two years in the Philippines and Korea.
On Aug. 7, 1949, he married Coreen Nickum at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. For two years, the couple operated a café in Irwin. After various jobs in Manning and Omaha, Mel joined the Iowa Department of Revenue in Council Bluffs where he worked until he retired on June 30, 1988.
Preceding Mel in death were his parents, his wife of 42 years Coreen, and their infant son, Larry, his sisters Lorraine Engel and Geraldine Huntley.
Survivors include son Tom and Eileen Knudson, daughter Tammy and Bob Nordstom, ex-wife Lorraine Hansen, many nieces and nephews, grandchildren Kyle and Ryan Nordstrom and Kristen Aiemjoy, her husband Glenn and great-grandson Orion Aiemjoy.
Visitation is Friday 6-8:00 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel in Council Bluffs. Funeral Service Saturday 10:30 a.m., with visitation one hour prior at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon, with Pastor Doug Opp, officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the Church social hall. Interment in Danway Cemetery in Irwin. Military honors provided by the Audubon American Legion Post #120 and the VFW Post #4119. Memorials are suggested to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Audubon.
