Nelson "Jr." Spencer, 83, passed away Monday, September 5, 2011 at SunnyBrook of Adel. Per his wishes, he has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.
Jr. was born October 13, 1927 to Nelson Sr. and Elizabeth Spencer in rural Dallas County, IA. He was one of five children and graduated from Norwalk High School in 1946. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Camp Carson in CO as a mechanic. Jr. was employed with Bordens Dairy as a route man for 19 years and then worked as an over the road truck driver for another 25 years. In his retirement, Jr. also delivered mail on a part time basis. He enjoyed golfing, coaching softball, riding motorcycles, and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Jr. was preceded in death by son, Rex Rockwell and brother, Jack Spencer.
Those left to cherish his memory include his partner for over 40 years, Ruth Rockwell; his first wife, Dixie Spencer; children: Norman Spencer, Vicki Blum, Valerie Stetzel, Don (Sue) Spencer, Jeff Spencer, Amy Towne, and John Rockwell; brothers, Gary (Rita) Spencer, Dennis (Joyce) Spencer, and Tony (Dellaine) Spencer, 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
