Funeral services for Niels C. Juel, 94, were conducted by Pastor Doug Opp on Monday, March 31, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon. Interment was in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon. The casket bearers were Robert Hansen, Steve Nelson, Dennis Nelson, Brian Johnson, Earl Blohm, and Brandon Cohn. The Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon was in charge of the arrangements.
Niels Christian Juel, the son of Jess N. and Annie Nelson Juel, was born May 17, 1919, at his parents' home east of Hamlin, and died March 26, 2014, at the Waterford Assisted Living Facility in Omaha, Neb. at the age of 94 years, 10 months, and 9 days.
Niels was baptized and confirmed at the Hamlin Lutheran Church in Hamlin.  He attended rural school Greeley Township #3 east of Hamlin and helped operate the family farm.  In 1945 he was inducted into the U.S. Army.  During his tour of duty he was a truck driver and was stationed in Korea.  He was honorably discharged in 1946.  He returned home and continued to farm with his father.
On Feb. 14, 1947, he was united in marriage to Norma E. Wahlert at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church Parsonage in Audubon. Two children Twila and Merlin were born to this union. They operated the Juel farm in Greeley Township growing row crops and raising livestock.  Niels purchased the farm in 1959.  He operated the farm until he retired from farming, and they moved into Audubon in May of 1980.
Norma died Nov. 22, 1988. Niels worked as a driver for Steve May Construction for many years.
On Feb. 19, 1991, he married Wilma Christensen at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church Chapel in Audubon. They made their home in Audubon, until they moved to Omaha, Neb., to the Walnut Grove Independent Retirement Facility in 2009. Later Niels moved to the Waterford Assisted Living Facility in 2013. 
Niels was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Audubon and had served on the church council.  He was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion in Audubon.  He served as an honor guard for over 65 funerals.  He also was a member of the Audubon Lions Club.
Niels was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Norma Juel on Nov. 22, 1988; his sisters Marie and husband Harvey Blohm and Amanda and husband Stanley Hansen.
Survivors include his wife Wilma Juel of Pella; his children Twila Juel of Omaha, Neb.; Merlin and wife Dee Juel of Omaha, Neb.; his grandchildren Shannon and husband Alan Rogers of Peyton, Colo., Staci and husband Brandon Cohn of Lincoln, Neb.; his six grandchildren Austin Evans of Cresent; Daniel, Jessica, and Lauren Rogers of Peyton, Colo.; Camden and Carter Cohn of Lincoln, Neb.; his sister-in-law Helen Lauritsen of Audubon; his step-children Bonnie and husband Carlos Chase of Pella; Marcia Laub of Buffalo, N.Y.; Mark Christensen of Los Angles, Calif.; his step-grandchildren and his step-great grandchildren nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
