Patricia Barrett Moreland, 68, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning April 10, 2011 at her home. Services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 14, at Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon.

Pat was born on Aug. 14, 1942 in Carroll, Iowa to Leon and Vera (Canfield) Barrett. She was baptized at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon. At the age of seven she contracted polio. Pat grew up in rural Audubon County and attended school at Viola through the eighth grade. She graduated from Audubon High School in 1960 and continued her education at the University of Iowa. Her highest degree was a Masters in Public Administration.

Pat married Paul Moreland on June 17, 1962, at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon. Theirs was the first wedding in the "new" church building. To this union were born Ross in 1964 and Tara in 1969.

Pat's well respected career was that of a Clinical Dietician at Broadlawns Hospital and Lutheran Hospital (both in Des Moines), a dietary management tenure at a Boulder, Colo. nursing home, and her latest position as a state inspector of hospitals and nursing homes within the state of Iowa.

Pat was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed. She loved spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed camping, cooking and antiquing. Pat was a very active person, especially connected with her church. She was a long time member of Grace United Methodist and served on District and State level committees. Pat served on the International Board of Church and Society (United Methodist Church). The Adult Sunday School Class that she and Paul were members of was so important to her. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Post Polio organization of Central Iowa and actively supported the Animal Rescue League. Pat loved attending auctions and did so weekly for a number of years. She was an advocate for the disabled. For about 20 years Pat was an Iowa State Fair judge in the food categories.

Preceding her in death were her brother Ronald, her parents and grandparents.
Survivors include her loving husband Paul of West Des Moines; son Ross (Lori) of Naperville, Ill.; daughter Tara Jackson of Des Moines; mother-in-law Mary Ellen Moreland Quandt of Audubon; grandchildren, Garrett and Dillon Moreland of Naperville and Rachael, Courtney and Seth Jackson of Des Moines; brother-in-law David (Cathy) Moreland of Smithsburg, Md. and Mark Moreland of Dallesport, Wash.; sisters-in-law Alice (Steve) May of Audubon; Jane Ann Wyckoff of Cedar Falls; Rosalee (Keith) Christiansen of Blair, Neb.; and many dear friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
